St.Pr./El.St. Chinchilla
The most significant show mare
Born in 1977, Chincilla was one of the most significant show mares of her generation:
1980 Oldenburg Champion Mare in Oldenburg. "Undisputably 1st place for the Champion Mare Chinchilla by Zeus. This exceedingly beautiful mare convinced, among other things, because of her large frame, her elegant head and well set neck and her excellent sequence of movement." [quote Das Oldenburger Sportpferd] - "A mare of great class, only a few like this are born. Height at the withars 16.2 hands. An outstanding horse of international class. Indisputably the star among the 41 State Premium Mares. Very proportional build, long lines, very good leg work, a beautiful, natural walk and strong trot movements." [quote C.P. Wiersema]

Unique breeding record
During the birth of her twelfth foal in 1996, a chestnut colt by Rubinstein, Chinchilla was internally injured and bled to death. Two years later, her chestnut son named Rubino Rosso was licensed – the fourth licensed son by the "Empress of all shows". Not just the achievements of St.Pr./El.St. Chinchilla at shows are impressive – the same also applies to her sheer power in breeding. This chestnut mare gave birth to a total of twelve foals, including four State Premium Mares, C’Est Ci Bon, Chantilly, Chanson and Chateau as well as four licensed sons, First Class I and II, Sesostris and Rubino Rosso.
Paul Wendeln:

- Winning family: Chinchilla, Zymbal I and Cleopatra DLG Show 1986 Hanover

- Winning family: Chinchilla, Chrystal and C’est la Via National Broodmare Show 1990 Verden
"To breed a Champion Mare just once – and then die … it was a crazy idea I had", laughs Paul Wendeln. Even today it is hard for him to believe that he achieved this with his very first breeding product out of Cinderella. "But things got even better when Chinchilla became the National Champion Mare and together with her two full sisters, Chrystal and C’Est la Vie, took the National Champion Family title. Of all the brothers and sisters, Chinchilla reminded us the most of her mother. She was an entirely uncomplicated mare, just like Cinderella: in every day activities, as a broodmare and under saddle. Josef Hannöver trained her and after just six weeks he was certain that he "could soon ride advanced (S) level dressage" with her. It would have been interesting to see how she would have made out if she had had a career in sport instead of breeding. She certainly loved shows. The flags, the spectators, large arenas – that was her thing. We don't want to boast but competitors often despaired because of her. A rather misfortunate accident happened at a show once. Horses that were tied up to drawn ropes became frightened, tore loose and took off in all directions. Only Chinchilla and her sisters remained where they were and did not allow themselves to get caught up in the circus. Chinchilla's death was an enormous loss for us – perhaps that is why I have a very special place in my heart for her last foal, Rubino Rosso, who had to be raised by a foster mare."
